Honors College
Advisory Councils
The dean of the Honors College relies on two key groups for valuable guidance and advice: the Honors Council and the Dean’s Student Advisory Council. The University president appoints members to the Honors Council based on recommendations from the Faculty Senate and the Student Government Association (SGA). This council includes two active Honors faculty members from each undergraduate college—Basic and Applied Sciences, Business, Education and Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, and Media and Entertainment. It also includes two Honors students recommended by the SGA. Together, they meet about once a month during the academic year to discuss and address important issues and proposals that shape the future of the Honors College.
Established in 2005, the Dean’s Student Advisory Council gives Honors students a direct voice. They share their concerns, ideas, and needs with the dean and associate dean. Meeting approximately three times a year, this committee ensures student perspectives influence decision-making. The dean appoints members to this council, selecting students who demonstrate leadership and a commitment to enhancing the Honors experience.
Both councils play a vital role in strengthening the Honors College community by fostering collaboration between faculty, administration, and students. Their active involvement helps drive innovation, improve programs, and maintain the high standards that define the Honors College at MTSU.
