2025 Buchanan Transfer Fellowship Application
All applications must be submitted by February 15, no later than 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST).
Using the same User ID and password, you can now start your Buchanan Transfer Fellowship Application. Google Chrome is recommended. You do not have to complete the application in one session, but please save often.
The Buchanan Transfer Fellowship Application requires an essay, transcripts (unofficial are acceptable), and two letters of recommendation.
Each item may be attached to the application. If needed, recommendation letters may be mailed to the address listed below in part five of these instructions or uploaded to our secure portal (see part five). Recommendation letters must be emailed or postmarked by February 15 of the application year.
4. Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required as part of the application. Applicants should try to find previous collegiate instructors to provide a letter. However, you can ask an employer or supervisor to provide a letter if you’re not able to get two faculty to write your letters. Letters must be signed and submitted on official letterhead. Applicants may attach the letter directly to the application, or the recommender may upload the letter to our secure portal (or email uhc@mtsu.edu if the portal doesn’t work for you – do not email transcripts, only recommendation letters) or mail them to the same address below in step five. If emailed, the letter must be in the form of an attachment on official letterhead.
Ideally, letters should address the following:
- Length of time and capacity in which the supporter has known the applicant.
- Applicant’s strength of character and commitment to service and education.
- Why the supporter believes the applicant deserves this scholarship.
5. College Transcripts
In addition to sending your official college transcripts to the admissions office as part of the general admissions process, you must take another step and send another copy of your transcripts to the Honors College. Unofficial copies are acceptable.
Do NOT email transcripts.
Please use one of the steps below to submit your transcripts:
- Preferred Method: Upload them directly into your Buchanan Transfer Fellowship application. Look for the link called “College Transcripts.”
- Use our secure portal to upload electronic versions of your transcripts if you were unable to attach them to your application.
- Mail them to the Honors College at:
MTSU Honors College
Buchanan Application Committee, Box 267

Mailed copies must be postmarked by February 15.
