Learn about Undergraduate Fellowship and Scholarship Opportunities for MTSU students
The Middle Tennessee State University Undergraduate Fellowships Office (UFO) strives to refer and aid MTSU students for National and International awards, scholarships, grants, and more. We promote academic and scientific scholarships that allow students to further study in their future respected careers and encourage domestic and international participation in various scholarships. We offer a variety of funding opportunities to help students receive funding for study abroad, research experiences, graduate school, and more. The Undergraduate Fellowships Office has had students receive numerous scholarships, including Fulbright, Goldwater, Gilman, Critical Language Scholarship, and Udall, and finalists for the Marshall Scholarship, Rhodes Scholarship, and Truman Scholarship.
Students interested in pursuing national fellowships can find practical guidance in our latest resource, How to Be Successful with National Fellowships at MTSU. This guide outlines key strategies for developing strong applications, from building meaningful relationships with faculty mentors to crafting compelling personal statements and preparing early for competitive opportunities. Whether you are just beginning to explore fellowships or actively preparing an application, this resource offers clear, actionable advice to help you navigate the process with confidence.

Nationally competitive scholarships offer students transformative opportunities for research, public service, leadership development, and global experiences beyond traditional university funding. These awards—ranging from the Fulbright Program and Goldwater Scholarship to open‑application programs like the Gilman Scholarship and Boren Awards—are funded by government agencies, foundations, and international organizations. Some require campus nomination, while others allow students to apply directly, but all help applicants strengthen their writing, interviewing, and long‑term academic or career goals. The Undergraduate Fellowships Office supports students through every stage of this process, encouraging early exploration and thoughtful preparation to build strong, competitive applications.
