Paid Summer Research Internships in Germany

RISE Germany (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) offers fully funded summer research internships for undergraduate students from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. Sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), this prestigious program places students in cutting-edge research projects at top universities of applied sciences (UAS) across Germany.

Students are carefully matched with doctoral mentors and research teams in fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, and life sciences. Interns receive a monthly stipend to cover living expenses and gain hands-on experience in an international research setting—all while exploring Germany’s culture and academic landscape.

Each year, DAAD awards around 300 RISE Germany scholarships, making this an exceptional opportunity for STEM students seeking global research experience.

Key Dates & Eligibility

Internship Duration: 10–12 weeks (May to August)

Eligibility:

• Undergraduate student in a STEM field
• U.S., Canadian, British, or Irish citizenship
• Completed at least 2 years of university-level coursework by the start of the internship
• No German language skills required (though helpful for daily life)
